This week we take a look at a sample essay that is atypical of HK’s DSE students’ standard.
This sample was written by a HK DSE Form 6 student who is targeting a 6.5. Observe:

- crisp descriptives
- evident range
- spelling issues
- some conjunction issues
- tense incoherence
- decent linkers
- some issues with extended range
- singular plural incoherence
- passive voice issues
- decent referencing
Introduction and body begin smoothly, no doubt due to referencing the sample (*cough* copying). Grammar issues persist. Tenses need to be coherent, either present simple or reported speech. Sudden switching to passive voice caused errors. Inconsonance persists. Referencing and linking adequate. Significant improvement has been demonstrated. More accuracy for that cigar.
