【 James’ Tips🔑】
This week we will be looking at a case study in Hong Kong English as opposed to proper
English, revealing some of the many common mistakes that Hong Kong’s students are
unwittingly prone to.
The following sample was written by a Hong Kong working professional targeting a 7.0
for immigration purposes, yet due to many Hong Kong-English mistakes, remains at the
global average, 6.0

✅❎James’ comment on the student’s work:
His mistakes include, spelling, passive voice, parsing, third person singular errors, lack of
appropriate prepositions, and most importantly, singular versus plural dissonance or
incoherence of subject verb conjugation, which is probably the number 1 most common
HK-English mistake that students make landing them in the 6.0 band.
