This week we take a look at a student who has already achieved a 7.0 but is struggling to raise performance higher to an 8.0, having not yet grasped and incorporated the necessary standard.
🔖 LACK OF DETERMINERS, SINGULAR OR PLURAL AWARENESS, AND THE IMPORTANCE OF SOPHISTICATED LEXICAL ITEMS.
📌 Task Achievement check.
💡Coherence and cohesion sound.
Grammatical accuracy reasonable yet with some hiccups.
Grammatical range evident, though more is always better.
Lexical resource seems a bit lagging in effort or flexibility particularly initially albeit this is somewhat mitigated towards the end yet gives the impression of too little, too late.
Some fatal errors regarding the lack of awareness with the indefinite article, or determiners, singular or plural, see corrections.
📚 Too many small mistakes regarding singular or plural, indicating a lack of mature native grammatical awareness, coupled with overly simple words such as happiness.
Not only the higher one aims the smaller the margin of error, but also the greater the need to do something flamboyant and dashing, particularly above 7.5, which can be achieved either with winding and accurate complex sentences, precise circumlocution, or lexis that is both colourful as well as accurate: as Mark Twain said, “the difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.”
